A Living Conversation with the Text
James Nestingen writes about Luther's interpretation of Genesis and debates over law and gospel in its development.

Martin Luther's approach to biblical interpretation is discussed by James Arne Nestigan of Luther Seminary in a Word and World article called Luther in Front of the Text: The Genesis Commentary. The article reviews Peter Meinhold's claims that the text of the Genesis Commentary has been altered in its final editing to claim Luther's authority for particular views on law and gospel which later emerged in the antinomianism controversy. Nestigan is interested to recapture Luther's approach in making the Old Testament come alive in real down-to-earth terms as people live in particular history not general ontology.
